About the project

As the new academic year begins this September, Blue Door Education (VO/2165) opens its doors to welcome both new arrivals and returning adult refugees, asylum seekers, and vulnerable migrants in Malta.

As Malta’s 2025 EPALE Award Winner for Best Non-formal and Community Learning for Adults and a three-time Voluntary Organisation of the Year finalist, we deliver hands-on "linguistic first aid." Our 100% free English language, digital literacy, and practical life-skills courses empower learners to build independent lives with dignity, equity, and confidence.

Why Term 1 Matters

September to Christmas is a critical term, with newly arrived refugees in Malta seeking urgent language tools to navigate healthcare, housing, and their new environment. By sponsoring a learner for Term 1, you give them a strong foundation for the entire school year ahead.

Sponsor a Learner for Term 1 (Sept – Dec):

  • €15 (Term Supply Pack): Covers textbooks, workbooks, stationery, and learning folders for 1 student for Term 1.
  • €30 (Half-Term Sponsor): Provides 6 weeks of classroom instruction, digital lab access, and essential learner support.
  • €75 (Full Term 1 Sponsor): Fully sponsors 1 adult learner’s tuition, study materials, and support services for Term 1.
  • €225 (Academic Year Champion): Fully funds 1 student's education across all three terms of the school year.

Every cent raised goes directly toward maintaining our free educational services for those who need them most in our community.

Project Deliverables

  • Free Language, Literacy & Life Skills Classes: Delivery of structured, multi-level English language and foundational literacy modules, along with practical life-skills workshops, serving up to 200 adult learners per week across the term (in-person and online).
  • Learning Materials & Digital Access: Distribution of essential textbooks, workbooks, physical stationery, learning folders, and access to digital literacy resources and computers.
  • Volunteer Coordination & Safeguarding: Comprehensive management of up to 45 dedicated volunteers per term—encompassing recruitment, background vetting, specialized pedagogical training, ongoing mentoring, and quality monitoring.
  • Term Attendance Certificates: End-of-term certification celebrating student consistency and progress, helping build learner confidence and portfolios for further education or employment.

Project Beneficiaries

Primary beneficiaries are adult refugees, asylum seekers, and displaced migrants who have fled war, persecution, severe trauma, and extreme poverty—often arriving in Malta having lost their homes, livelihoods, and loved ones. Forced to start from zero, these brave individuals turn to Blue Door Education for the essential literacy, language, and life skills needed to heal, regain their independence, and rebuild their lives with equity, dignity and confidence.

True to our open-door mission, we also provide adult literacy support to any local resident or community member whose foundational learning needs have not yet been met.
